Searching for happiness?!
A commentary on the film Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi by Samuel Thambusamy
Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi is a film about young people searching for Success (read happiness). The options before them are: being the best, money, fame and power. Interestingly, the film explores the contemporary options available to young people. Manish, Rajeev, Jai, Monica and Ishita want to explore their idea of happiness. After five years, they realize that the are victims of their own idea of happiness (read success). They desperately seek to escape from their “trapped” existence. They find the means of transformation in seeking forgiveness for their mistakes and mess-ups.
The song “Hum Khushi Ki” encapsulates the struggle of these young people and their tryst with pseudo happiness. The message of the film is loud and clear: The search for happiness is like a mirage. In searching for happiness, we lose whatever we have. In searching for life, we move far away from life. Who or what can give us happiness? Can happiness be found by the choices we make? Would this happiness be real? Ask yourself this question/s:
1) Are you happy?
2) What is your idea of happiness?
3) Would you agree with the options (money, fame, power, being No 1) that are explored in the film? Why?
4) What do you think would provide happiness to you today? Why?
5) Has your pursuit of happiness made you sell your soul to get where you wanted to?
Every man must strive to find out before he dies, What is he running to? What is he running from and why?. Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi makes us think and reflect on our ideas of happiness. Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi‘s message is simple: Don’t sell your soul in exchange for “happiness’. You don’t just end up with disappointment. You end up hurting yourself. This is a movie you don’t want to miss. It helps you engage in soul searching and if you’re honest with yourself, it puts you in the path towards transformation. Like Manish, Rajeev, Jai, Monica and Ishita we could have our moment of Truth.
